JISHIN by Candice Tianyu
Candice’s collection drew on Japan’s earthquakes and her memories of school earthquake drills. On set we kept the visual references subtle, so I let sound do the heavy lifting. I built a disjointed, rumbling soundscape that grows until the tension breaks into a clean beat, giving the film its runway moment.
Handling both camera and edit meant the film was built for that sound from the start. It gave the collection a strong presence online, brought Candice a wave of attention for her designs, and helped launch her career after graduation.
